Time for Change

Time for Change

I got my first goat in 2007 at the Bebe flea market. He was a Spanish Nubian cross named Jack and supposedly killed rattlesnakes.

Obviously I was a bit naive about farm life.

Jack led to Rosie and Pumpkin, because you can’t have one goat. They led to more goats, and next thing you know I’ve got one of the largest purebred Oberhasli herds in the country, I’m a Showchair for a 500 head show, and my life is goat centric.

Well. It’s time for that era of my life to end.

Goatroper farms is getting out of goats. Which makes the name nonsensical…

After almost 20 years I’m ready to try new things, go on vacations, have extra time to explore hobbies and interests.

And as much as I love the goats, I’m also just worn out. My health has never been the same since I developed long covid, and the constant stress of farming in this current environment has not helped that aspect.

So goats are going to new homes. The trailers and equipment will be for sale. The milk stands and semen tanks and other ephemera too.

There have been definite highs but also many lows in this farming gig. I’ll miss it some days, I’m sure. But my body needs a break and my mind needs a rest too.

Thank you for all the years of love and support you’ve sent our way. Some of you have become lifelong friends we will continue to cherish.

Thanks for the memories

Big Changes for the Farm

FeaturedBig Changes for the Farm

Hey everyone. Long time no blog.

So we moved to Clatskanie, Oregon. We are settling in well. The Does have all been bred and we will be posting updated breeding plans and our yearly CAE test results ASAP.

We will still be selling milk come 2024 by appointment only. Just….not in Arkansas.

We appreciate your patience as the farm starts this new chapter in our lives.

hugs and baby goat kisses,

Milk Stars for Everyone!

One of my goals for 2022 was to not slack off and go all the way to 305 on my girls to push them to earn their star. Most of them should have earned it 2-3 years ago, but I’ll be 100% honest, untreated seasonal depression, covid, financial stress, regular depression, and just exhaustion kept that from happening. I just kept wearing out.

This year tho. We did it. Every single doe that has freshened (except princess because she didn’t get the memo to keep going after we pulled her kid) is now qualified as a star milker.

New (pending) star does this year:

Rosie, 1M, Protein Zenobia, 2M, all three categories
Aria, 2*M, Protein

And our surprise, FF Serenity who is still nursing Miracle, 1*M in Butterfat.

Already Earned Stars:
Jinx, 1M, all three Pearl, 2M, all three
Jane, 1M, BF and protein Phoenix, 1M, BF and Protein

Now….we rest. Kidding season starts in 6 weeks. Gotta start getting ready for that.

Thank you for all the support everyone. Stay safe out there.
